LEXINGTON, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Education hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new headquarters in Lexington on Monday.
The brand-new building is in Lexington at the State Farmer’s Market.
The agency was previously in the Rutledge Building in downtown Columbia on Senate Street.
“This department will serve as a point of pride for all who sees it," SC State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver said. "A visible token of the Palmetto State's investment in and commitment to educational future to all our students.”
The building offers more space for meetings lounges and modern technology in conference rooms.
“This is your department of education, and you are most welcome here," Weaver said. "Please come visit us.”
Meanwhile, the Rutledge Building is being purchased by the University of South Carolina.
