Since the 2012 general election debacle, many Richland County voters have been highly concerned about what happens at the polls. Tuesday's primaries were the latest test.
"I've always had a pleasant voting experience here," Ralph Williams said.
For the state primaries, Williams made it to Joseph Keels Elementary bright and early. In 2012 during the general election, it literally took all night.
"Even though I get up early and come, this is the first time that I was number one on the voting sheet," Williams said.
After about 10 minutes, Williams was casting his vote.
But at Spring Valley High, it was a long morning for one voter, who did not want to talk on camera to News19.
"I got here early this morning to get in to get out," he said. "The polls open up at 7:00, they open the doors at 7:01, we get on inside the lady came up to make an announcement that the machines are not up yet, they're not working yet."
"They called earlier this morning saying that they were having problems, but by the time we got there, about 9:30, 10:00 there were no issues to report," Richland County Elections and Voter Registration Interim Director Samuel Selph said.
Selph reported a couple of "hiccups," but says there have been no major malfunctions.
"We've heard the issues that we expect to hear on election morning throughout the state. When you have over 2,000 precincts, 15-20,000 poll managers, things are going to happen on election morning that aren't as smooth as election officials want them to be," Chris Whitmire with the South Carolina State Elections Commission said.
Other issues have been site personnel not unlocking the building on time and poll managers not showing up on time or not at all.
Otherwise the state election commission says it's been smooth sailing.
"It's been a relatively calm primary day," Whitmire said.
