Dorchester County, SC (WLTX) - A man woman has been charged with hitting and killing an off-duty North Charleston police officer who was riding his motorcycle.
Whitney Brooks has been charged with felony DUI involving death.
WCBD-TV reports Officer Ryan MacCluen was riding his motorcycle on Ladson Road near Henrietta Avenue around 9:40 Thursday night when he was struck by Brooks' car.
MacCluen was taken to Summerville Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
“Officer MacCluen was riding a personally owned motorcycle and was wearing a helmet when the collision occurred,” Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers told the station.
Brooks and a passenger in her car were not hurt.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
An off-duty North Charleston police officer, and a North Charleston police K9 were killed in separate crashes Thursday night.
News 2 has learned that the off-duty officer, 31-year-old Ryan MacCluen, died in a wreck on Ladson Road in Summerville. According to Dorchester County coroner Paul Brouthers, MacCluen was riding his personally-owned motorcycle, and wearing a helmet, when the collision occurred.
Sources tell News 2 that the other driver involved was charged with driving under the influence.
