PICKENS, S.C. — Sheriff's deputies in South Carolina have captured an inmate who escaped from a county jail earlier this month.

Pickens County Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said in a news release that 45-year-old Steven Leroy Aiken was caught at a home in Liberty around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Hashe says Aiken is being held in the county jail and has been charged with escape.

The deputy said Aiken had climbed a fence and ran away from the minimum-security jail late Sunday afternoon.

Aiken had been serving a four-month sentence for family court violations. He was awaiting trial on charges of domestic violence and malicious injury to property.
