No serious injuries reported after school bus runs off road in Richland County

The incident happened early Friday afternoon.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police said a school bus crashed Friday afternoon, although no serious injuries were reported.

The incident happened just after noon on Gauley Drive, which is in northwest Richland County not far from the Broad River.

A picture released by officers showed the bus on the side of an embankment behind a house in that area. Police said the driver and students were onboard at the time of the crash.

Lexington-Richland School District Five said the bus was carrying students from Dutch Fork High School. The staff and students were examined by EMS on site and no one had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

The district said everyone was taken to a different bus and ultimately to their normal drop-off site.

Police said the circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation. "Staff and student safety is always School District Five’s highest priority," Lexington-Richland Five said in a statement. "District officials will continue to investigate the details of this incident in cooperation with the Columbia Police Department."
