COLUMBIA, S.C. — The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported an earthquake in South Carolina.
The 1.6 magnitude earthquake was just three miles west of Jenkinsville.
According to a post by the South Carolina Emergency Management Division the quake happened a little after midnight on Wednesday.
No damage was reported.
South Carolina has a history of minor earthquake activity. The largest, most damaging earthquake on record is the 1886 Charleston earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.3. That quake was felt from New York to Cuba, killed at least 60 people and damaged thousands of buildings
