BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — Giving a fake name to law enforcement may seem like a good idea in the moment, but it almost never turns out well.

One man learned that lesson during a traffic stop in Berkeley County this week.

Deputies pulled a man over for defective equipment, and discovered a foamy liquid between his feet — along with the distinct smell of beer.

When asked for his information, the man said his name was Michael Jackson and gave a date of birth. That information came back with no record.

It turns out his name is actually Kenneth Michael Wright. And the "thriller of it all" was that the 56-year-old was wanted on criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

Wright also had several active warrants for for fraud and failure to appear out of Charleston County. He was arrested and charged with false information to police, open container of beer and displaying tags for another vehicle.

"If you think lying to us makes you a smooth criminal... you better think again," the sheriff's office said.
