Lexington County firefighters extinguish fire involving roof-mounted solar panels

Crews had the fire under control within about 20 minutes, officials said.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A fire involving solar panels reportedly damaged the roof of a Lexington County home on Thursday just before noon.

According to a statement from county officials, Lexington County Fire Services was called to the 3300 block of Augusta Highway near Gilbert around 11:45 a.m.

Arriving crews said they found a fire that involved solar panels on the roof of the home that they later learned had spread in the attic to a minor extent.

Fire officials said it took roughly 20 minutes to get the fire under control and no injuries were reported. Additional details regarding how the fire started were not available at the time.
