CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina inmate who was found unresponsive in the back of a transport vehicle has died.
News outlets report J. Reuben Long Detention Center inmate Abed Naqshabandi was pronounced dead Tuesday.
A Horry County Sheriff's Office statement says officers were returning to the jail from Conway Medical Center on Saturday when they found Naqshabandi unresponsive in the back of the detention vehicle.
The statement says 28-year-old Naqshabandi was transported back to the medical center and was pronounced dead days later.
It's unclear what caused Naqshabandi's death. The statement says no foul play is suspected at the moment.
Naqshabandi was booked into the detention center on Aug. 28 for shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance charges.
