LEXINGTON, S.C. — As Lexington County Board of Elections Director Lenice Shoemaker came back to their building on West Main Street after buying more posterboard for polling location signage, she sighed and said Friday had been a busy day for her and other staff.
"We started early around 12 o'clock, our clerks started coming in, they're getting all of their poll books and getting ready... some people can set up, some people have to wait until 5 in the morning to set up their precinct, so we're getting all their outdoor signage," Shoemaker explained.
Shoemaker says elections staff have been prepping for the last year to make sure all presidential elections locally go off without any issues. She and her staff are expecting a high voter turnout based on early voting numbers.
Lexington County saw 12,200 people come out to early voting for the Republican Primary, Richland County saw around 6,000, and Orangeburg saw roughly 1,000 voters.
Republican senator for Spartanburg, Josh Kimbrell, said he expects a high turnout on Saturday as well.
He believes voters will have heightened motivation for this presidential race.
"There's a lot of interest. I think most people will vote tomorrow. republicans typically vote on election Day and I think that will be true tomorrow... I think Governor Haley loses by 30 to 40 points and former president Trump wins by 30-40," Kimbrell explained.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. To vote, you must bring a photo ID.
