LIST: South Carolina school districts change plans for Friday due to Debby

Debby is forcing districts to re-evaluate their plans for the week.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tropical Storm Debby is expected to bring substantial flooding to South Carolina, and in response, some school districts are changing their plans. 

The storm is expected to bring heavy rain starting Tuesday and extending through Friday. Some computer models have the storm bringing upwards of 10 inches of rain to parts of the Midlands.

With that threat in mind, here's what Midlands school districts have told us so far about their plans. This article will be updated as we get more information: 

CALHOUN COUNTY:

Calhoun County Public Schools will open on a two hour delay on Friday, August 9th. 

CLARENDON COUNTY:  

No announced changes for Friday yet.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY: 

Fairfield County School District will operate on a two-hour delay schedule on Friday, August 9.

KERSHAW COUNTY:

Kershaw County School District will be on a regular school schedule Friday, August 9. 

Students will have five school days to complete all e-Learning assignments to be counted present for August 8.

LEE COUNTY:

Friday, August 9, 2024 is an eLearning day for students. All staff members are expected to be available virtually during normal working hours on Friday, August 9, 2024.

LEXINGTON ONE: 

No announced changes for Friday yet.

LEXINGTON TWO:

Lexington Two will open on a normal school day schedule on Friday, August 9.

After-school activities and programs will go on as scheduled Friday afternoon.

All 4K and 4K DD classes will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, as initially planned.

No 3-year-old classes will meet. 3K students will have their first day of school on Wednesday, August 14.

LEXINGTON THREE: 

Lexington County School District Three announced that all of campuses will be open on Friday, August 9th for their regular schedules. 

LEXINGTON FOUR: 

Lexington Four will resume normal operations on Friday, August 9. 

LEXINGTON-RICHLAND FIVE:

Friday, August 9, 2024, will be the first day of school, and will be a “B” day. 4K and 5K students have received further information from their teachers regarding start dates.

NEWBERRY COUNTY:

No announced changes for Friday yet.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY: 

Orangeburg County School District plans to reopen schools and buildings on a two-hour delay, Friday, August 9, 2024. The delay will allow for any early morning storm related cleanup, and for school buses to travel during daylight hours.

RICHLAND ONE: 

Richland One schools will operate on a two-hour delayed start Friday, August 9.

RICHLAND TWO:

Richland Two schools and district offices will resume a normal operating schedule on Friday, August 9. Schools will start at their normal times and buses will run on their regular schedules. All before and after-school activities will resume on their normal schedules as well.

Students will make up missed instructional time on October 18 via an asynchronous e-learning day.

SALUDA COUNTY:

No announced changes for Friday yet.

SUMTER COUNTY:

All schools in Sumter School District will reopen on a one-hour delay Friday, August 9. This is also the first day for prekindergarten and kindergarten students.
