RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina State University football player was arrested in Richland County early Wednesday morning.
Jamare Benjamin is charged with two counts of possession of controlled substance schedule II, transport of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicle with broken seal, DUI 1st degree and simple possession of marijuana.
On October 30th, just after midnight, a Richland County deputies said one of their deputies saw a Chevy sedan speeding and failing to maintain its lane on Bluff Road. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, at which time the driver of the sedan, who deputies identified as Benjamin, allegedly threw a paper bag out of the window and then stopped.
During the stop, the deputy said he located open liquor containers and narcotics. The sheriff's department said Benjamin was also observed to be under the influence.
Benjamin is a redshirt junior defensive back for the Bulldogs. His hometown is Spartanburg.
