ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Two high-ranking officers with the South Carolina State University Police Department are no longer with the agency.
The school confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Chief Timothy Taylor and Captain Jeblonski Green are no longer with the agency. Citing personnel matters, a school spokesperson could not say why the men were no longer with the agency.
However, documents filed with the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy show that Taylor was fired, and his last day was April 12. According to the document, “Timothy Taylor’s employment was terminated as part of a leadership realignment by the agency.”
According to the Justice Academy's employment history on file, Taylor had been with the department since 2021 after briefly working there in 2019.
According to another document, Captain Green retired this month. He'd worked at S.C. State since 2022, and his last day was April 17.
A university spokesperson said Capt. Africa Wells is currently leading the department, and the school is in the process of finding new leadership.
This news comes just weeks after the school had a shooting at the campus involving an officer. Back on March 29, an officer shot 27-year-old Tyrik Willie Joe Pressley III after agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) said Pressley attempted to kill someone on campus with a car.
Pressley was released from the hospital and charged with attempted murder, among other counts. No officers were injured, and that shooting remains under investigation by SLED.
Last week, the school began requiring identification from anyone who wanted to go on campus as a new security measure.
That change is the latest security upgrade for the school. Earlier this year, the school announced it was adding a gun-sniffing dog to the campus through a company called Global K9 Protection Group.
