Chapin, SC (WLTX) -- Saturday evening was Chapin High School's ROTC Ball.
One special needs student decided to ask a special friend to accompany her.
Chapin High Junior, Elyhana Reynoso, asked Cliff Kayhart to the ball.
Kayhart is a 107-year-old World War II veteran.
News 19 learned Mr. Kayhart didn't hesitate in saying "yes" to the request. He was just wondering what suit he should wear to the ball.
The two matched perfectly; Reynoso dazzled in a blue sequin shirt and long skirt, and Kayhart in a dark suit with a light blue shirt and a pink carnation.
Upon entering the event Saturday with Reynoso and Kayhart's great-grandson Will Lauer, the veteran was greeted with a standing ovation.
Reynoso met Kayhart at the Lowman Home in Chapin. Reynoso takes occasional trips there to visit with residents. She hopes to work there one day.
Along with being a WWII veteran, Kayhart also fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was responsible for setting up radio communication with the Pentagon.
June 8, Kayhart will be part of a group of World War II veterans recognized at the South Carolina Military Museum.
