COLUMBIA, S.C. — The holiday season is just around the corner and with that means the arrival of the state Christmas tree
The state will welcome the tree Tuesday morning.
In preparation for the big day, News19 spoke with people in the area about what they’re looking forward to this holiday season.
“I love the holidays," resident Mary Catherine Branch said. "There's something about this time of year, the leaves falling, it getting a little chillier, quality time together, and we like to do an advent guide, and we light candles each week leading up to Christmas."
Others, like Kelly Tabor, are looking forward to the smile they see when opening presents.
“Being with family, that's the number one thing, the great food, gifts are kind of secondary," Tabor said. "I'll put it this way. I love giving gifts. I don't really care what I receive, but I love to see the excitement, especially on children's faces as they open up gifts.”
And when it comes to traditions, food might be on the top of some people’s list.
“We have to have Christmas dinner," Tabor said. "We do Christmas breakfast, which entails country ham, eggs, grits, of course, hash browns, homemade biscuits and gravy and then, preserves, every type of preserves."
With the tree arriving to the north lawn of the State House, people say it will be even a more of a reminder that the holidays have arrived.
“I think it's going to be a huge reminder that the holidays are right around the corner, and they need to get with it and start buying,” Tabor said.
The tree will officially be lit on Sunday, November 24th, during the annual Governor’s Carolighting Ceremony.
