Columbia, SC (WLTX) - At the South Carolina State Fair there's one exhibit that wows year after year.
"This is what we do," Brandi Glenn said.
Hawaiian shirts? No shoes? No problem.
Brandi and her husband Greg like to be relaxed to take on their sand sculpting.
"It takes a toll. It takes a physical toll, it takes a mental toll," she said.
The husband-wife duo quit their jobs to start up Sandscapes in the 80's.
This year's South Carolina State Fair sculpture is still under construction after almost 60 hours of work. The theme is children's stories.
"Fairytales are getting lost. A lot of us older people know them, but a lot of the kids don't know a lot these fairytales," Glenn said. "The kids will come in and the parents will say,'Oh that's such and such and such," she said.
Throughout the day, people watch in amazement and take pictures, mostly because your average person can't keep one measly sandcastle together.
Their secret?
"If we pack it in a wet ball and we throw it up and it breaks as soon as it hits our hand, we gently throw it up, then it doesn't work," Glenn said.
While interviewing Glenn, she decided to work and talk, because they're on a deadline to finish the 14-foot sculpture by Tuesday. Then it's back to normal.
"When we're here we're working and when we're done at the end of the day then we're husband and wife again," she said.
You can see the sculpture in the Ruff Building by the rocket.
