South Carolina State Fairgrounds are kept tidy by a diligent crew

Crew members pick up trash, empty bins, clean bathrooms and building around to clock for the fair.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The state fairgrounds are packed with guests coming in and out and eating and that means lots of trash, but there is a crew behind the scenes keeping everything tidy.

With four hundred thousand people coming in and out to enjoy the South Carolina State Fair, keeping up with trash can be tricky.

With hundreds of trash and recycle bins in every corner, there is also a busy cleaning crew at work.

Timothy Chapman is the assistant operation manager of Venue Smart, a cleaning and waste management company that has been contracted to keep the South Carolina State Fair grounds tidy.

"We have roughly sixty-five staff that go around the grounds around every ten to fifteen minutes,” said Chapman. “Night crew, we have roughly twenty that clean the grounds at night."

While the Venue Smart crew keeps the grounds clean, fairgoers are able to explore.

Ava Marion attended the fair with her mom and siblings and says that the clean environment is enjoyable.

"Yeah its like really pretty to see,” said Marion. “And you feel safe when you're walking around on a clean fairground so I think that's really cool."

In addition to trash clean up, Venue Smart also works hard to keep the buildings and bathrooms clean as well.
