Residents in the town of Vance host a free elderly monthly bingo game

Members of the Orangeburg County community get together once a month to meet and play games.

VANCE, S.C. — Monthly bingo for senior citizens in the town of Vance brings out a bit of excitement.

Seniors of Orangeburg county are welcomed into the Vance Family and Friends Center to play bingo on the first Thursday of every month.

This monthly meet up began three months ago and Jacob Guess says he has been excited to play since it started.

"Well it's something good for the people of Vance,” said Guess. “The senior citizens we don't have too much going on in town of Vance, we're not that large but it's something good for the neighborhood."

The prizes are perfect for adults, winners get to pick from a table of  food, household or toiletry items.

Bingo in Vance is Dorothy Brown's brain child and she says providing seniors with the chance to do something fun, have a snack and possibly win a prize all for free is important.

"Some of the things they are not able to get and this way they come out and they have fun playing the games,” said Brown. “The donations is from the community, the churches, different businesses and stuff they help me out with that. It's no charge for anything, everything is free free. I am so excited about this because I'm working on getting them a hot meal before they leave."

Birdie Houser is a participant and says she enjoys having activities to participate in.

"It gives the seniors something to do,” said Houser. “You know we won't be staying home all day long bored and stuff and I sure appreciate that the mayor opened out this building out for us."

The next senior bingo games will be on December 7th from 12pm to 2pm at the Vance Family and Friends Center.
