The town of Camden about to go to the 'dogs'

These dogs don't bark but they are making a lot of noise in Camden

CAMDEN, S.C. — One local man in the city of Camden wants to ensure the community's history is fully displayed by creating several Boykin Spaniel statues.

"Other towns have their horses, their pigs, they're whatever and I thought with Boykin it's natural," says the owner of 1011 Galleria, Rob Brown.

He says the main goal was to make it fun and enjoyable for those in the community, but also as a way to educate.

"First of all, it's the state dog of South Carolina and I don't know if everybody knows that," Brown said.

"The Boykin Spaniel was raised right here and bred right in Boykin on Pine Grove Plantation, the big deal was they wanted a small dog that could go hunting, " he adds.

So far, one spaniel statue is on full display.  The cute critter even has a name, he's called Whit, and of course there is a story behind the name.

"Whit is because Whit Boykin was the man who actually created the breed so honoring him so his name is Whit," Brown adds.

There is another one in downtown Camden that has not been completed, and four more will be installed in the coming weeks.
