COLUMBIA, S.C. — Nature explorers here in Columbia will be able to experience a new island while taking in art at least that's what One Columbia is hoping.
One Columbia is looking for artist/artists to help create a new sculpture park on Boyd Island.
"We’re seeking professional artist who can fabricate a medium size sculpture" says Lee Snelgrove, Executive Director of One Columbia, "We hope that the artist has some experience doing work with animals or artwork about animals. We hope to have artist who’ve competed similar public artwork in the past."
In addition to lit walking trails and expansive river views the city hopes to add to the serenity of the area through this new project.
"I think it’s just one more draw for people to visit the river" says Snelgrove "To have an experience at the river and both be able to experience simultaneously The natural setting and have that experience be inspirational through art."
The deadline for submission is February 28, 2020. Click here to find out more information.
The project budget is $100,000 and is inclusive of all project costs, including artist's fees and expenses, taxes, materials, travel, shipping and crating, insurance fees, design, fabrication, installation/execution and transporting of the artwork to the project site.
Riverwalk officials say the island is set to open by the spring of 2020.
