BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — The historic downtown Bishopville railroad depot covered in covered with plants that have been allowed to grow wild and trash. Soon, however, the city will transform it into a space they hope the community will be proud of.
"We were fortunate to be able to attract some interest to it, and we're proud to have it moving on to being restored," said Bishopville Mayor Pro-Tem Ennis Bryant.
The dilapidated railroad depot sits on the corner of North Main Street and East Cedar Street. There's been talk of improving it for some time. Bishopville City Council has now announced what the overgrown space will transform into.
"Right now It's going to be an open space market, it can be used for festivals and events, and people can utilize it for picture sessions or private parties. This section behind us will be open-air shelter, the office space area over here will be restored there will be a standing metal roof," said Councilmember Wayne Hancock.
Work will begin in the next 30 days and they anticipate it to be complete in December.
