LEXINGTON, S.C. — A popular e-cigarette company has jumped a final hurdle to start operations within Lexington County.
The South Carolina Department of Commerce announced back in May JUUL would be creating at least 500 jobs in West Columbia.

The company will be moving into a space right near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, that was once home to Westinghouse. It’s located at 375 Metropolitan Drive.
On Tuesday, Lexington County Council held a final reading to approve the company coming into the county. County Council approved the ordinances that will give both JUUL and Flextronics a tax break but also require an annual fee from the companies.
Flextronics is leasing the county-space and hiring people. JUUL will be providing the manufacturing equipment.
According to the ordinances, JUUL will have to invest at least $102 million and Flextronics will have to create a minimum of a little over 500 jobs. The investment period for JUUL in the ordinance is until June 30, 2022.
"We are excited to work with community leaders to support the creation of high-quality American jobs for a diverse and inclusive workforce drawn from across the Midlands as we continue to invest in helping adult smokers switch from combustible cigarettes and combating youth usage," said JUUL Labs Chief Executive Officer Kevin Burns in a statement.
The company says they plan on starting operations at the end of the summer.
