CAMDEN, S.C. — From collecting shoes, canned goods, and basic daily items, students at Camden Middle School are trying to do it all ahead of the holiday season.
“It’s just a great feeling knowing you're helping provide something to those who might not normally get something or an opportunity like this,” 7th grader Gracie Hall said.
The students want to give, hoping to change the lives of those in need this holiday season.
The students in the Avid Program are hoping to fill boxes like these to get items to families in need through Operation Christmas Child.
“You can donate toys, books, personal care items, to kids who may not be as privileged so that they will be able to open something on Christmas Day,” 7th grader Maybre Davis said.
Not only are they participating in in Samaritan's Purse's Operation Christmas Child, but students in the Beta Club are collecting canned goods for United Way of Kershaw County.
“We do them like every year, and so once we raise all the cans we can get, we go United Way and we weigh them and help stock the pantry,” Kimberly Reynolds said.
Beta Club students are also working to get shoes to kids in need.
“Or shoes are donated to an agency and they distribute to kids across the world," 8th grader Olivia Frasier said. "They are tennis shoes or other kinds of athletic shoes.”
“Think about what their reaction will be when they receive a pair of shoes if they have never had one, or if they are struggling to afford some,” said 8th grader Ryan Neal.
Donations are being accepted for Operation Christmas Child Boxes through November 13 and through the end of November for cans and shoes.
