KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead, and two are in the hospital after a crash involving a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles on I-20 around noon on Saturday.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 11:40 a.m. in Kershaw County, roughly seven miles west of Camden. Bennett said a 2011 Buick sedan, a 2006 Ford pickup truck and a 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck were heading east on the interstate when the first two vehicles stopped for traffic.
Bennett said the tractor-trailer hit the back of the pickup truck, forcing it to hit the sedan's rear. The crash sent the car and pickup truck off the right side of the road, and the pickup truck also flipped.
The driver and a passenger of the sedan were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the pickup truck, died at the scene of the crash.
The tractor-trailer truck driver was not injured, authorities said.
The crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
