CAMDEN, S.C. — State agents are investigating the death of a murder suspect who was found in his cell at the Kershaw County Detention Center the day his trial was set to conclude.

The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office announced that Corey Perrine was found dead just after midnight on Friday. Perrine was charged with the 2019 murder of Cletis Edward Baker, and his case was taken to trial on Jan. 9 at the Kershaw County Courthouse. Officials expected the trial to conclude on Friday.
