KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — A long-vacant facility in Kershaw County is set to be revitalized, bringing significant investment and job opportunities to the area.
“Just excited about getting some business back into Kershaw County into an otherwise abandoned facility,” said County Administrator Danny Templar.
The T.B. Kawashima building in Lugoff, which had been shuttered for several years, will now house a new business.
While the company’s name has not yet been disclosed, Templar shared project details, noting the site’s eligibility for state tax incentives.
“This new facility will be in one of the buildings from the original footprint from Kawashima, which was a cloth-dyeing operation for the automotive industry,” Templar said. “Anytime a qualifying building has been shuttered for over a year, there is an incentive through the state to get companies to go back and reinvest into those shuttered facilities. So, that's exactly what's happening here. This, this meets the criteria."
"It will be a metal fabrication machine shop operation day," Templar said. "The proposed investment is $16 million, and that's with the machine and equipment and land and building acquisition. We expect 32 jobs with an average wage of about close to $24 an hour. So, you know, we're excited about it."
There is no set timeline for when the company will be announced or when operations will begin.
