KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man in connection with a Saturday afternoon shooting that a witness said happened as her stepfather attempted to sell a car.
Sheriff Lee Boan said deputies were called to the 2500 block of Fort Jackson Road shortly after 6 p.m. The caller said the victim, her stepfather, was trying to sell a car to someone when that person pulled out a gun.
While the incident is still under investigation, preliminary information suggests a vehicle chase between the victim and suspect followed, during which the victim was shot in the leg.
Boan said investigators notified the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Richland County Sheriff's Department about the incident and that they believed the suspect left in a gray Toyota Tundra heading toward Richland County.
Later Saturday evening, investigators arrested a suspect in the case, 49-year-old Paul Head of Lugoff, and charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken to the Kershaw County jail to await a bond hearing.
The sheriff said this didn't appear to be a random act as the victim and person involved in the shooting know one another. As such, deputies do not believe there was any danger to the general public.
