CAMDEN, S.C. — A 46-year-old man out on bond is facing several new drug charges after investigators discovered a large amount of fentanyl and other drugs while executing a search warrant at a Camden area home, officials say.
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office said Theodore Donell Sheppard was charged with 10 drug and gun offenses when a search of a home in the 1300 block of Kings Avenue uncovered roughly 400 grams of fentanyl - or about 14 ounces. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, just 2 milligrams of the drug can be deadly.
The sheriff's office said Sheppard has an "extensive" criminal history tied to drugs and guns and was on bond for charges tied to both when deputies executed the search warrant.
The charges against him suggest investigators also found several other drugs at the location. According to the sheriff's office, those charges included trafficking fentanyl, trafficking methamphetamine - third or subsequent offense, trafficking cocaine - third or subsequent offense, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule 1 controlled substance - first offense, possession with intent to distribute marijuana - first offense, possession with intent to distribute within a half mile of a school or park, felony possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and commission of a violent crime while on bond.
The sheriff's office said Sheppard falls under a new bond reform bill, meaning he doesn't receive a bond for the latest charges at this time.
