KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Officials say six people, three of them children, are getting help from the American Red Cross this weekend after an overnight fire that heavily damaged their Kershaw County home.
A spokesperson for the Kershaw County Fire Service said firefighters and Kershaw County Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the 900 block of Bishopville Highway around 3:45 a.m., following an alert from county communications personnel.
Smoke and flames were already burning from the rear of the home when the first crews arrived, but fire personnel were able to get the fire under control quickly, officials said. During the incident, fire crews temporarily closed one lane of Bishopville Highway. However, that lane was reopened before sunrise on Sunday.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. A spokesperson for the department said no one was injured in the incident. Fire officials didn't say how severe the damage was to the home but shared a photo of the aftermath that appears to show significant damage to the roofline and a portion of an outside wall.
