CAMDEN, S.C. — Investigators have arrested a state employee accused of using her position to steal thousands of dollars.
On Friday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced that it had arrested 22-year-old Julia Haley Baker for a crime that happened over roughly two weeks. Warrants said that, between May 1 and 16, Baker, who was employed as a clerk at the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles office in Camden, used a state computer system to alter transactions to defraud the state or customers of more than $10,000.
On Monday, Baker was charged with violating the Computer Crime Act with a value exceeding $10,000 and booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center. The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office will prosecute the case.
