Students blend carpentry skills with holiday cheer for first-ever Christmas pop-up sale

18 students are building Christmas trees and holiday decorations, which will go on sale this Friday for their first-ever Christmas tree pop-up sale.

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Students at the Woolard Technology Center are mixing their carpentry skills with the holiday spirit.

“I thought it would be an easy project for them to make because it uses a lot of carpentry skills,"  Instructor Eric Branham said. "So, we thought we would try it and it blew up.”

Branham said 18 students are building Christmas trees and holiday decorations, which will go on sale this Friday for their first-ever Christmas tree pop-up sale.

“We were doing this as a fundraiser for our students, and she posted it and when she posted it, it really took off," Branham said. "And now we’ve had to kind of change around for the past week into making more trees.”

It has not only helped with the holiday spirit, but has also mixed well with their course lesson on employee abilities.

“They made one tree in 30 minutes and then it got down to where they were making three trees in 14 minutes,” Branham said.

Student Mason Mooneyhan said with some sawing and staining, it’s quickly transformed into a project he’s feeling jolly about.

"It really teaches you a lot of aspects in carpentry, and seeing the finished product is really nice," Mooneyham said. "You give it to your family and the people you know, and it's a nice gift that you made.”

The pop up sale is set for this Friday, November 17, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Woolard Technology Center. All money raised will go back into the program.
