LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Lexington County Coroner's Office has identified a man whose body was found in the woods outside of Gaston on Thursday.
According to Coroner Margaret Fisher, the body was that of 37-year-old Joseph Matthew Kosmos of Lexington, who was reported missing in May. Authorities discovered the man's body after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor in the area of Roundtree Court.
A newly released incident report suggests that deputies initially had trouble finding the body when they arrived at the scene, but the neighbor who spotted it led them in. Authorities said the person was wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and no shoes. They also found a bookbag nearby, the report states.
The coroner's and sheriff's offices are still investigating the incident. Coroner Fisher said in a statement that an autopsy is scheduled for June 11 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
