Food Map shows off restaurants in West Columbia, Cayce and Springdale

The food map features more than 50 local restaurants in West Columbia, Cayce, and Springdale.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — One developer has created a new food map giving folks a tour of all the local places to eat at in the City of West Columbia and around the area.

Joe Taylor Jr., a local developer in the City of West Columbia, wanted to show off what the city has to offer.

"One of the fun things about West Columbia is finding these great places to eat lunch and dinner," said Taylor.

Taylor, the former South Carolina Secretary of Commerce, said he wanted to search for a way to help local businesses in the community.

"When you hear about all the things we do for big businesses everywhere and you ask yourself as a former Secretary of Commerce, what can I do to help the little guy," explained Taylor. "That's what it is about. It's about promoting the little guy here in this community."

People are able to come to the City of West Columbia City Hall to pick up one of the 5,000 free copies of the map.

It features more than 50 restaurants people can check out to grab a bite to eat. This includes places like Zesto's, Al's Upstairs, Compton's Kitchen, and much more.

The map also has some restaurants located in the City of Cayce and Springdale. This includes Steel Hands Brewing, Tony's Pizzalicious, and Carolina Buffet.

"They're all small businesses on here that are mom-and-pop operations. It's kind of the backbone of the community," explained Taylor.

The map's artwork and design was created by North Carolina industrial designer, author and urban sketcher Mike Daikubara.

One of the things the food map shows is the wide variety of food available around West Columbia, Cayce, and Springdale. From burgers, to Italian, to Thai food, there's so many different places to choose from people may have not known before the map was created.

Taylor hopes this gives the community something fun to do and check out all the places what the west side of the Congaree River has to offer.

"It's just something fun! It's January, it's February. We need something fun to talk about," said Taylor. "It's some new places to go explore. Let me tell you something, every single one of these places that's a restaurant on here is family-friendly."
