CHAPIN, S.C. — A water main break in Chapin has been repaired, hours after residents woke up Thursday morning without a drop to drink.

The town told News19 late Thursday afternoon the line had been repaired after hours of work. The 12 inch main line on Bear Creek Road off Amicks Ferry Road broke sometime overnight.

Rick Bryan with Chapin Water said while repairs were made the utility rerouted the water flow to resupply residents.

As a precaution, a boil water advisory was issued for all customers of the Chapin water system. That will stay in effect until lab tests shows the water is safe to drink.

During this time, customers should expect a temporary loss of water pressure. For this reason, the entire Chapin water system will be under a boil water advisory.

Chapin is also on water restrictions unrelated to this break. People there are being asked to conserve water between the hours of 4:30 and 9:30 in the morning due to high water demands from the summer heat.
