A passenger on the motorcycle was also hurt and taken to Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A Gaston man has been identified as the victim in a Saturday night motorcycle crash in Lexington County that also left another person hurt.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 8:50 p.m. on U.S. 21 near I-26 about two miles south of Pine Ridge.

Ridgeway said a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading north on U.S. 21 when it traveled off the road to the right, hitting several construction barrels and a road closure sign. The driver, identified by the Lexington County Coroner's Office as 49-year-old Philip James Bugger, died at the scene of the crash. A passenger was injured and taken to Prisma Health Richland Hospital for treatment.

Coroner Margaret Fisher said the passenger's injuries were not considered life-threatening and that neither rider was wearing a helmet. Ridgeway said the crash is still under investigation.
