A West Columbia police officer injured in a crash is now home recovering

The crash took place on Thursday on Augusta Road in Lexington County.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A West Columbia police officer has been released from Prisma Health Richland Hospital after a crash in Lexington County on Thursday.

The police report reveals that Officer Anita Chestnut was taking a suspect to the Lexington County Detention Center when a white Kia Soul collided with the patrol vehicle.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. in the 5400 block of August Road in front of a BP gas station. Chestnut was in the patrol vehicle with the suspect, Eddie Bigham, who was located on the rear passenger side.

Investigators say the white Kia Soul driver failed to yield the right of way when turning out of a parking lot. That driver, who was not hurt and refused treatment, was issued a citation for failing to yield the right of way.
