ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The "Loads of Love" initiative is providing essential items for people experiencing homelessness in Orangeburg County. The project was started by an SC State University student in an effort to give back to those in need.
“I try to help people the best way I can. If I can’t go out and do it myself, I reach out to people who can help me help them," said SC State student Quantella Riddle.
She says she started the initiative as part of her senior project at South Carolina State University. She was inspired to make this call for action during her experience as an intern. She's been interning there since August.
“Some residents that’s coming here don’t have little to nothing so we try to get as much donations as we can to help them out from going out to buy things," said Riddle.
The Samaritan House serves as a resource to people living in Orangeburg County through temporary housing and stabilization services. The project calls for donations of detergent, bleach, and laundry pods for residents.
“It makes me feel good. It makes me feel like I could do whatever I put my heart and mind to, to actually help people, that’s in need," said Riddle.
The last day to donate to the initiative is Tuesday March 28 at The Samaritan House in Orangeburg at 1580 Middleton St.
