LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Town of Lexington has released a new rendering of the Gibson Pond Dam that's under construction during 2020.
The Gibson Pond Dam was washed out during the October floods of 2015.
Lexington announced last year in the State of the Town address they would be working to rebuild the dam. During the process, plans had to be submitted to FEMA for approval.
Since then, FEMA has approved the plans to start work on the Gibson Pond Dam.
75 percent of the project for the public park project will be paid by FEMA and the town will take care of the remaining 25 percent.
The total cost of the project to fix the Gibson Pond Dam will be around $5 million.
A few weeks ago, the town announced they would be temporarily closing the park while crews working on fixing the dam.
The town released a rendering of the design to show what changes are coming to the dam. It will feature a walkway that will include two fishing piers for the pond.
The Town of Lexington posted in comments on their Facebook post that the rest of the park will remain the same.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by late 2020.
Many people asked about the Old Mill Pond Dam and when it might be fixed. Street Squad Lexington talked with the private dam owner back in October. The property owner is hoping they'll start rebuilding the dam by the end of 2019 and have the water raised back up by fall of 2020.
