ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Six-year-old Avery Davis of Orangeburg passed away Saturday morning following a hunting accident. Now, the hunting community in South Carolina is rallying behind the family and friends of Davis.
Twin Oak Coon Club will be hosting a treeing event for hunters Saturday in honor of Avery.
Russ Kaigler is the owner of Kaigler Hill Outdoors and will be taking part in the hunt, which will also be a celebration of Avery’s life.
"It's not the official hunt, but its just the boys in the community trying to get together to do something to give back,” Kaigler said. "That's horrible. As a father I wouldn't, couldn't even wrap my head around that."

Eric Pressley is the state lead for the Fallen Outdoors South Carolina Chapter.
"When this hit the community, everybody was really shaken up about it,” Pressley said. “I know that when I got the news, I was going to go take two kids out for their very first deer hunt and I just stopped and held my kids close because it could have been mine. It could have been any one of us. But the impact and the positivity that has come out of this, out of such a dark time has been amazing."
The Twin Oak Coon Club Treeing for Avery event will be this Saturday in the town of Patrick. All proceeds will be given to the Davis family.
It's not the first time Orangeburg County has been devastated by the loss of a child in a hunting accident on Thanksgiving weekend.
In 2019, nine-year-old Colton Williams was killed on Thanksgiving Day in a rabbit hunting accident in Orangeburg County.
