Calhoun County School District sees improvements on SC Ready test

The latest South Carolina College and Career Ready Assessment Scores are out and the district said the results show what they’ve been doing for students is working.

CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — Calhoun County School District saw a significant increase in their South Carolina College and Career Ready Assessment test scores for their third to eighth graders.

7th graders in the school district saw an increase in Math and English Language Arts and 5th graders saw an increase in Math as well.

Superintendent Dr. Ferlondo J. Tullock says this news is exciting but the district still has more room to grow.

“Seeing the scores come back this year we’ve met some of those targets as a district where want to see kids perform and again that’s growth,” said Dr. Tullock. “With the state scores in terms of the targets with the state we’re not quite there but that’s why we come here everyday to try and get better."

English Language Arts teacher Amanda Aukes says they’ve been using iReady data had a lot to do with the success by helping them get better in reading and math.

“Our district implemented using iReady last year,” said Dukes. “We used our iReady data to place our children in tiered intervention groups and we allowed them to work in small groups to make the gains that they did.”

Math teacher, Sunita Marapally says guiding students is a top priority.

“I believe all the teachers in our school including administrators encourage our students a lot to do the right thing, to put in their time to what they learn throughout the school year,” said Marapally. “That’s one thing very important for children sometimes they just give up they don’t realize what they have what efforts they have put throughout the year.”

Calhoun County saw an increase in their Biology, Algebra and English test scores on the high school level.

Also in the Midlands, 84% of Orangeburg County students saw improvements in their Math scores in the SC Ready test.
