ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Highway robbery.
A man and his 11-year-old daughter had pulled off the side of the road on I-26 near Orangeburg to fix a spilled cooler Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. As they were fixing the cooler, two men with guns tried to rob them.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Ravenell said 18-year-old Lloyd Fulton and 19-year-old Terrance Jackson have each been charged with two counts of armed robbery with a deadly weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon
“The two individuals pulled handguns on this man and his 11-year-old daughter, who had pulled over to the side of the highway,” the sheriff said. “We’re just so thankful these two passers through were not injured.”
Deputies said at one point, the man was able to distract the gunmen long enough for he and his daughter to flee in his vehicle.
The gunmen attempted pursuit in a truck but had tire failure near the exit for I-95.
Ravenell said the two subjects were taken into custody after an Orangeburg K9 was deployed near the I-26 and I-95 intersection.
The two gunmen had fled approximately a half of a mile into a nearby swampy area after having bailed out of their disabled vehicle.
