New Lake Marion Middle School ready for students

The new Lake Marion Middle School in Orangeburg County is just days away from welcoming its first set of students.

SANTEE, S.C. — The new Lake Marion Middle School in Santee is ready to welcome almost 600 students for the new school year.

Students from Elloree, Santee, Eutawville, Holly Hill ad Vance will be filling the hallways of this brand-new school.

The school’s principal Dr. Felisha Williams says this will be a smooth transition for all students and staff.

“It’s just a coming together of you know the cultures,” said Dr. Williams. “And we are blending the classrooms we have no need to group them a certain way from certain areas we are all coming together because here in Orangeburg County we’re one.”

Shirley Oliver is in her 47th year of teaching in Orangeburg County.

She says she is very excited for her new classroom.

“When I came into the middle school, this new middle school I was so excited,” said Oliver. “The room is such a beautiful room, the desks the chairs, just look, we are so excited to have this new building for our students in our community.”

The middle school is a few feet from the high school and Dr. William says students will benefit their technology center.

“Our eighth grade students will pretty much be afforded the opportunity to do any of those classes like global logistics, culinary, coding,” said Dr. Williams.

Oliver says this new school will provide new opportunities.

“I think that all parents should realize that this new school is for their children and the teachers are here to give their children what they need so the can go on to high school, college, military, or even a job we are going to do what we need to do for their children.”

All Orangeburg County School District schools begin on Monday August 5th.
