Detention officer charged with smuggling drugs and phones into Orangeburg jail

The now-former detention officer faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A detention officer has been arrested and charged after an investigation at the Orangeburg-Calhoun County Detention Center.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 26-year-old Tatyana Izlar has been arrested and and charged with one count of furnishing prisoners with alcoholic beverages or narcotic drugs and one count of furnishing or possessing contraband in a county or municipal jail after the jail director requested an investigation into possible contraband coming into the facility.

The sheriff's office said investigators were notified on Monday of narcotics coming into the detention center. The investigation led to Izlar, who deputies said eventually admitted to being paid to deliver narcotics and cell phones on June 19. The sheriff said deputies seized "a quantity" of marijuana and a cell phone from the woman's vehicle.

Izlar faces up to 10 years in prison under South Carolina law if convicted.
