ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Fire officials said the American Red Cross is assisting five people after flames engulfed part of an Orangeburg home on Saturday morning.
The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety said Fire Station 1 was dispatched to Sweet Gum Lane and arrived within eight minutes. When they arrived, firefighters said a quarter of the mobile home was already in flames, but all the people there had already escaped and were uninjured.
Fire officials said they had the flames under control within about 11 minutes. Orangeburg Department of Public Safety officials used the moment to remind the community to test their smoke alarms monthly and ensure they work.
