Orangeburg Preparatory School donates paper goods to Samaritan House

Students gathered paper goods for the local homeless shelter.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Orangeburg Preparatory School donated over one thousand paper products to the Samaritan House.

The class that gathered the most, was given the opportunity to dunk food on their teachers.

Connie Porth is the lower campus administrator at Orangeburg Preparatory School and says the students enjoy giving back to the community.

"This year we wanted to do something a little bit different so we decided to bring in some paper products so that they could use those at the Samaritan House,” said Porth. “It's important for the children to give back, because we're so blessed and the children are so blessed. And they just love to give, we are a school of givers and we just love to give back to the community."

Henry Miller is the executive director of the Samaritan House and says the support from the community is impactful.

"And I tell everyone on a daily basis, you just never really know, this could be you one day in a homeless shelter,” said Miller. “But to know that Orangeburg has the support from the community, the schools, church based organization to help support the mission of what we got going on down at the Samaritan House."

Jerry French is a founding member of the Samaritan House and says these supplies help more than just the residents of the shelter.

"The Samaritan House feeds so many people that just come to the door,” said French. “We can only house forty but outside the door there are many more homeless and they found we will feed them at the door. So a lot of these are take out trays and implements, utensils that they can used to be given a tray of food and they can walk back wherever they are going to spend their day and have a meal and so that very important to them."
