ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State University kicks off their homecoming celebrations this week.
Students who are part of campus Greek life spent Monday sprucing up their plots and gardens. Each one is maintained by each different sorority and fraternity.

"It shows a sense of pride and unity like everybody is out here cleaning their plot in their designated areas you know sometimes we help each other out,” said McAllister. "So it's just a real pride thing, you want to take pride in your spot you know you want to make sure it looks good."
Members of Greek life spent the day putting down mulch, cleaning their letters and rearranging the bricks in their designated plots.
Gabriel Nkhada is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. at South Carolina State University and says there is historic value behind Greek plots.
"All the plots here are very historic part of our school,” said Nkhada. "So every year around homecoming all the bros get together and we just you know fellowship and we clean our plots so that it will look good for the campus, it will look good for the alumni and it will just look good for everyone as a whole."
Dr. Franklin Pressley is the director of student life and leadership and says this weekend members of on campus Greek life as they are able to bond with those who had similar experiences before them.
"It's very important mainly because it's a way to show the alumni that they care and they're grateful for what they've done for them in the past,” said Pressley. “But also its a way for the alumni and the students to unite come together and get to know each other and ever for the students to network as well."
