PINE RIDGE, S.C. — The Town of Pine Ridge has started a new program to help feed families in need.
The Blessing Box was placed in front of Town Hall two months ago.
People can bring donations and place them in the box so other folks in need can provide for their families.
Pine Ridge town officials says they started the program because some parents skip meals during summer vacation so their kids have enough to eat.
Officer James Swanson with the Pine Ridge Police Department says it’s been beneficial to the community.
“A gentleman who lost their job said this blessing box has been providing food for their family which is a great thing to hear,” said Swanson.
The town also says this box is not just for the people who live in Pine Ridge. It’s also for families who live on the south side of the county.
“I really hope it builds the community,” said Swanson. “The Town of Pine Ridge, not even just the town but the local area from South Congaree and Gaston, to let them know we are here to support families.”
If you’re someone in need of food, no questions will be asked. You can walk up to this box and take what you need.
“It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. There are tough times for everybody. It’s completely confidential,” explained Swanson. “You can come up here at any time. You could come up at midnight if you wanted to.”
People can donate nonperishable food items and other items like diapers. You can either just drop the donations off in the box or take them inside to Town Hall.
