Renovations coming to downtown Bishopville

The city purchased two buildings in an effort to get businesses in the door.

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — Changes are coming to downtown Bishopville, as the city works to restore buildings and welcome new tenants.

"We've got some plans of actually trying to revitalize Main Street," said city administrator Gregg McCutchen.

McCutchen said the city bought two buildings, the old Curves building, and the old Iron Gallery building, using some remaining federal COVID funds.

"We used some ARPA money; one of the buildings was $95,000 the other was $7,500," McCutchen said. "Needless to say, the one that's $95,000 is ready to be used, the $7,500 needs some repairs."

Once they are ready to go, McCutchen says new shops will move in.

"We've got people that have already given us some desire to do it, but we're trying to be equitable with everyone," McCutchen adds.

They are also working on connecting Main Street to the parking lots behind the currently under-construction shops.

"We'll have brick pavers in there and areas in which you can access the back, parking in the back, and come back into Main Street and whatnot to make it more consumer-friendly," McCutchen said.

There is no set date on when work will be completed.
