CAMDEN, S.C. — Trees have been cut down and soon will be replaced with new housing on Bramblewood Plantation Road in Camden.
The new developments will go up on both sides of the road between the Camden High School Sports Complex and the Kershaw County Jail.
"This is going to be a multi-tiered residential development," said City Planner Shawn Putnam. "It will be a combination of single-family detached houses and townhouses."
Putnam says there will be 198 townhomes and around 85 single-family homes.
"We have a two-step approval process so the first step is a sketch plan which shows the basic layout of the lots and the streets. They've been approved for that," Putnam said. "The second stage is a preliminary plat where they produce construction drawings for all the infrastructure roads, water, sewer, stormwater and then get surveys of where the lots will be, and that's part of the process they are in now."
The new housing is expected to bring hundreds of people to the area.
"The last census, the average household size is 2 and a quarter people, so with that number you're looking at about 650 additional people somewhere in that neighborhood," Putnam said.
The homes and townhomes are expected to be built at the end of this year or the beginning of next calendar year.
