Power restored to 900+ customers in Sumter

Around 4 p.m., more than 900 customers were without power and some traffic lights were also impacted. Service maps show power has since been restored.

UPDATE: Power has been restored in Sumter after a sizeable power outage earlier Friday afternoon.

SUMTER -- Drivers and residents in Sumter are being warned of a power outage that's impacted customers and traffic lights.

Sumter Police warned that traffic signals were out in the West Liberty Street and Guignard Drive area. Duke Energy's outage map shows just shy of 1,000 customers impacted by the outage.

The outage was reported at 3:56 p.m. and the cause, according to Duke Energy's data, isn't yet known

The power is expected to be restored around 6:45 p.m. according to the utility's maps.

With the outage also hitting traffic signals, drivers in Sumter should use extra caution when moving through the city until repairs are completed.
